BENSON’S BatallionTM: MISSION

The mission statement of Benson’s Batallion is as follows:

To provide financial, educational and other assistance to police organizations, fire departments and other public safety groups and to educate the public throughout the country, with primary focus in the city that Kris plays baseball in its surrounding regions, based on public need, in an effort to assist these safety groups in making their areas safe from violence, terrorism and attacks, along with any other business activity permitted by state law.

STRATEGIES AND GOALS:

There are many avenues in which Benson’s Batallion™ can proceed in the short and long term. The main priority is to get the message of urgency out to all the people of the United States. One important way of doing this is to utilize every local and state radio, newspaper and television station to reach as many citizens as possible. This also includes, but is not limited to, all other forms of media such as mailings, billboards, newsletters and fliers. Benson’s Battalion™ would like to take part in a live telethon; this in turn, would present many facts and educate the public on who we are and that we need to be prepared for any form of terrorism in our area. By the end of next year, the organization would also like to start an annual charity golf tournament, proceeds of which would benefit Benson’s Battalion™ fund. These future endeavors would be a great way for everyone to become involved and help protect their homeland.

To achieve our goals, we will need to do the following:

1) Develop an Advisory Board. These members should have an expertise that coincides with our strategic plan. We should consider the following areas for recruitment:
- Public Safety
- Business
- Government
- Charitable
- Academic
- Sports/Entertainment
- Civic Organizations
- Science and Medical Research

2) Closely monitor the fund raisers to realize expense savings and enhance revenue possibilities.

3) Develop and ask an Auction Committee to draw up a plan for an on-line auction throughout the year that would include the items auctioned and a web venue (i.e., e-bay, Sony, etc).

4) Identify foundations that give money to other foundations, such as Benson’s Battalion™ and begin writing grant requests.

5) Meet with State, Federal, and Local Officials so as to inquire about grants.

6) Begin pursuing 3 major donors. This can include an outright gift or planned giving.

7) Meet with various charitable and civic organizations and encourage them to have events that raise money and awareness of Benson’s Battalion™.

Short Term Goals by January 2003 (i.e., seven months):
An initial contribution of $150,000 will be donated to the organization by the Benson family over a four year period.

Intermediate Term Goals by January 2008 (i.e., seven to twenty months):
Have a yearly annual appeal that will net 90% to the charity in the form of a Christmas letter and raise $5,000.
Will solicit other foundations and agencies for a minimum of $5,000/year.
Sponsor or lend Benson’s Battalion™ name to other events that net the foundation at least $5,000 per year.

Long Term Goals by January 2010 (i.e., two to three years):
Sponsor a live telethon with a goal of raising $100,000.
Have an ongoing auction, throughout the year, via, the World Wide Web that will net $10,000/year.
Have a separate annual auction that will net 90% to Benson’s Battalion™ with a minimum of $5,000.
Will have received at least one additional major gift for at least $50,000.
Have a yearly fund raiser such as a celebrity autographs session or athletic events (including a golf tournament) that will net 50% of the Gross Revenues with a minimum of $100,000 per year.

There are many avenues in which Benson’s Battalion™ can proceed in the near and distant future. The main priority is to get the message of urgency out to all the people of this country. One important way of doing this is to utilize every local and state radio, newspaper and television station to reach as many citizens as possible. This also includes, but is not limited to, all other forms of media such as mailings, billboards, newsletters and fliers.
